G7 Summit G7 TYNDALL STONE TABLES 2025
Commissioned by the Government of Canada for the 2025 G7 Summit in Kananaskis, AB, this collection of stone furniture highlights the raw beauty of Canadian materials and craftsmanship. The two identical 1400lb tables are carved from solid Tyndall stone, their expressive surfaces showcasing the material’s rich fossil patterns. A matching side table features a carved recess at its center, allowing it to function as both a table and a vessel. Quarried in Manitoba, Tyndall stone’s natural markings remain the focal point, grounding each piece in the material’s geological history while serving a contemporary purpose.
Tyndall stone has long been used in Canada’s most significant public buildings, yet it remains largely unexplored in furniture design. This project brings the material into a new context, balancing its geological weight with refined, yet brutal detailing. The pieces are designed to be both monumental and intimate, emphasising the tactile quality of the stone while allowing its natural patterns to remain the focal point.
In a setting where Canada presents itself on a global stage, these tables serve as quiet statements of place - grounded in history, shaped for the present.
